I am passionate about quilting and am grateful to have the opportunity to inspire others. My intent is to educate and enthuse in an atmosphere of fun and support. Most students enjoy my relaxed way of teaching and appreciate my encouragement of confidence.

Have you ever found an interesting or profound quote or phrase? Want to do something creative with it? Try this totally innovative, free-form style, exploring “what-if” techniques.

Freeform cutting with no rulers or measurement, machine piecing, raw edge appliqué, rubber stamped text letters, Shiva Paintstick embellishment, free-motion quilting – the list goes on!


Dear Jane

1 day – 6 hours, Intermediate Level

The original quilt, In War Time, made by Jane A. Stickle in 1863 has inspired a world-wide following of Janiacs! The quilt is comprised of 229 different blocks constructed with a variety of methods.

Learn about the history of this famous quilt while making several of the 4 ½” blocks using miniature piecing and appliqué methods by machine and hand.

This class will only whet your appetite and introduce you to the cult-like world of Dear Jane. Organize monthly or even weekly meetings of your own Dear Jane Club for continued motivation.


Basic Machine Quilting

1 day – 6 hours, Beginner Level
(qualifies for credit towards the Earthly Goods’ Quilting by Degree program)

Learn to use your sewing machine to join the three layers of a quilt. Stitch quilt patterns that give the textural feel of hand quilting in a fraction of the time.

Students practice machine quilting on samples using the even feed (walking) foot and darning (free-motion) foot. This hands-on workshop has been designed for beginners to become familiar and comfortable with basic machine quilting designs. Learn stitch-in-the-ditch, grid work, free-motion designs, stippling, etc. Thread, needles, marking methods and batting types will also be covered.


Advanced Machine Quilting

1 day – 6 hours, Intermediate Level

Continue to expand your skills of free-motion quilting while learning a variety of background filler designs, continuous curves and cross-hatching possibilities. Explore the use of stencils, templates, marking tools and decorative thread.


Quilt Labels & Documentation

1 day – 6 hours, Beginner Level
(qualifies for credit towards the Earthly Goods’ Quilting by Degree program)

Documentation of your quilt is so important for future generations. Learn to make easy and professional quilt labels and explore additional techniques including, Pigma pen inking, photo transfer, computer generated labels, proper documentation, quilt show entry, copyright and insurance appraisals. Finish your quilt with a hanging sleeve and make a coordinating pillowcase for gift giving and/or storage.


Zentangles in Fibre

1 ½ days – 9 hours, Beginner level

A quick and easy fusible project will leave you wanting more – guaranteed! Explore the addictive world of Zentangle’s™ as you mix and merge bold black and white prints with your free-motion and walking foot stitching. Experiment with the decorative stitches on your machine and feel the zen of free-motion quilting while creating your own, one-of-a-kind Zentangle™ Art Quilt.


Harmonic Convergence (Ricky Tims inspired)

1 day – 6 hours, Beginner Level

Described by Ricky Tims as a magical, easy way to make small, artistic wall quilts, instruction of Harmonic Convergence will allow you to learn the theory of construction while trusting the mystery of the method. The effect of your fabric choice is realized as you progress through each step. Once you have learned the process, use larger fabric pieces and slice them any way you like! A simple but very effective “art” quilt.
Begin with just 4 fat quarters, use basic rotary cutting and ¼” seaming to complete your very own Harmonic Convergence. Most students complete the quilt center in the morning, audition and assemble the border, or begin a second piece in the afternoon.


Kool Kaleidoscope (Ricky Tims inspired)

2 days – 12 hours, Intermediate Level

Explore this simple but effective piecing process to create a stunning wall quilt. Start with pre-class sewn strata strips, draft your own unique pattern and sew the wedges together for a beautiful one-of-a-kind piece.
Complete the quilt top by exploring numerous variations of background “butts and wedgies” and border treatments.


Rhapsody Quilts (Ricky Tims inspired)

2-5 days – Advanced Level

A Rhapsody quilt is a medallion-style quilt that utilizes a symmetrical design in a reversed and mirror-image arrangement.
Each unique design in composed of gentle curves and provides an excellent opportunity for original appliqué and lush quilting designs.
Learn to design your unique pattern, choose suitable fabrics, and make templates for these one-of-a-kind beauties. Handle curves easily with Ricky’s method for no-pin precision curved piecing.
This is a workshop-style class where students work at their own pace. Demonstrations will be given throughout the days on the various elements and techniques pertaining to Rhapsody Quilts.
